Life Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness
On Monday, President Barack Obama was sworn into office for a second term and on Friday across the UK, it’s the release of the film ‘Lincoln’. So, with Presidents in mind, I’d like to look at one of my favourite lines from American history and the words of the very first Presidents and Founding Fathers of the United States.
The Declaration of Independence has one line that always gets me, which is “…Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” How did these guys know to tell us to enjoy the journey? Happiness is not a destination, it’s how we should feel, it’s how we should be whilst on our journey.
If there’s one film that you should watch this weekend (apart from Lincoln), it is ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ starring Will Smith. If you’ve never seen it, you’re in for a treat. If you have seen it, watch it again. There are some monumental moments in this film that if taken on board, you too will be on the path to happiness.
What are these key moment?
At i2i, we know what makes people tick. We know the psychological strategies that lead to success. We know that you have to be happy to perform constantly well. If you’ve been on our flagship 3 day course, you’ll know how to make all this possible.
So how does the film ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ help us?
There are some key points of dialogue in the film that blows the i2i team away every time we watch it. Will Smith plays Chris Gardener, who tells his son, ‘…don’t ever let somebody tell you that you can’t do something’ and ‘You’ve got to dream… and when you want something – go get it!’
When you follow these two amazing statements, you’ll be unstoppable. Don’t ever let somebody else tell you that something can’t be done. Imagine all the great moments in history, that may never have happened if those who made it happen, had listened to their doubters.
Plus ‘You’ve got to dream!’ EVERYDAY. During the day, think it, see it, then go make it happen. Follow the dream, whatever it is, with all your heart and soul. If you want it, more than anything else, you’ll get it.
We hear a lot about New Years resolutions in January, but you don’t need a new year, month or week to start heading towards your dream, you can do it anytime. Just know exactly what it is and go for it. Be unstoppable.
I’m looking forward to hearing what you’re aiming for and I have no doubt that you’ll achieve it. Be happy along the way and make sure you want it more than anything else. GO FOR IT!
